Additional Information about Legends of Wrestling (Sony PlayStation 2, 2001)
Join wrestling legends like Hulk Hogan, Bret “The Hitman” Hart, and “The Birdman” Koko B. Ware as they bring back the glory days of the wrestling. Legends of Wrestling celebrates a time in pro wrestling when good was good, bad was bad, and a giant, balding man clad in red and yellow was the hero of a generation. Featuring over 40 different grapplers from the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, the game incorporates just about every well-known wrestler from those eras that don’t have a contract with the WWF as of 2001.
Although Acclaim has published wrestling games for the WWF and ECW, Legends of Wrestling debuts a brand new engine. It puts a greater emphasis on grappling than their other outings, with weak grapples that can’t be avoided and stronger grapples that allow stronger, but more reversible, moves. The game also features a combo system that lets moves to be chained together with precise presses of the buttons on the controllers. Likewise, the reversal system allows opponents who are quicker with their fingers to escape these combos and turn the tables.
Legends of Wrestling including Career and Exhibition modes, as well as the omnipresent Create-a-Wrestler feature. The Career mode, which takes you through the course of a single wrestler’s rise to fame, differs from those in most other wrestling games. In Legends of Wrestling, you first take your character through the smaller, regional territories that ruled the world of wrestling 20 years ago. After you’ve conquered your local region, you can move on to other regions, eventually gaining the chance to be the U.S. Champion. The Exhibition mode allows for multiple players and offers singles matches, tag-team bouts, and three-way and four-way dances.
