Additional Information about Mickey’s Racing Adventure (Nintendo Game Boy Color, 1999)
Mickey’s Racing Adventure is a go-kart racing title featuring five Disney-themed environments and six playable characters, including Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, and Pluto. Using the same isometric perspective found in developer Rare’s earlier R.C. Pro-Am on NES, the game distinguishes itself by including an adventure element in between the racing sequences. Players begin the game as Mickey, who can freely walk around his hometown visiting shops, avoiding Pete’s wandering thugs, and collecting the currency needed to access the courses. Before players can compete on a track, they’ll need to pay the required amount of Mickey Tokens.
Each character, aside from Pluto, has his or her own world spanning three races via car or boat. Once players complete all three events, they will be able to race Pete himself in one of his hideouts. The racing action involves steering the vehicle left or right along 21 twisting courses filled with turbo boosts, jumps, and obstacles. Completing all three laps on a course earns players currency needed to advance, and players can switch characters simply by visiting their home during Adventure Mode. Also featured in this 32-Meg cartridge are an assortment of sliding puzzles, hidden mini-games, the ability to purchase vehicle upgrades or power-ups, and an option to print pictures using the Game Boy Printer.
